Activity 7.2 — Budding in Yeast

NCERT Activity 7.2: Observe budding in yeast under a microscope. Watch a small bud form on the parent cell, grow, receive a nucleus, and detach as a new cell.

How To Perform

1

Observe Yeast Cell

View the parent yeast cell — oval shape, nucleus, vacuole.

2

Bud Formation

A small outgrowth (bud) appears on the parent cell surface.

3

Bud Growth

The bud grows larger while still attached to the parent.

4

Nuclear Division

The nucleus divides — one copy moves into the bud.

5

Bud Detaches

The bud pinches off as a new cell. Parent remains intact!

⚠️ Safety Notes

  • Handle microscope slides carefully.
  • Yeast cultures should be disposed of properly after observation.
