Activity 9.6 — Image Formation by Convex Lens

NCERT Activity 9.6: Explore how a convex lens forms images at different object positions — beyond 2F, at 2F, between F and 2F, and at F.

How To Perform

1

Set Up the Lens

Identify the Optical Centre (O), Focus (F), and 2F points of a convex lens.

2

Object Beyond 2F

Place the object beyond 2F₁ and draw ray diagrams to find the image.

3

Object at 2F

Move the object to 2F₁ and observe a real, inverted, same-size image at 2F₂.

4

Object Between F and 2F

Place the object between F₁ and 2F₁ to get a magnified real image.

5

Object at F

Place the object at F₁ and see refracted rays become parallel — image at infinity.

6

Classify

Identify where to place an object for a real, inverted, magnified image.
